Let's get the E36 ready to drift

Project E36 — The Build Begins

This one's been a long time coming. An E36 shell, a V8, and a very clear goal — competing in drift by next year. It's early days, but it's already looking serious.

The cage

First major milestone done — the roll cage is in. This is always the moment a build starts to feel real. The shell goes from a stripped-out project to something with intent. It's been fitted properly, no shortcuts, because
when you're sideways at speed the cage isn't a styling choice.

Chassis reinforcement

With the cage in we're now working through the body, reinforcing the chassis at all the critical points. Seam welding, plating, making sure the structure is as stiff and strong as it needs to be for the kind of punishment
a drift car takes. This is the unglamorous part of a build — nobody photographs the chassis welds — but it's what separates a car that holds together from one that doesn't.

The V8

The V8 is in the car and it already looks like it belongs there. The work ahead is in the detail — getting the engine properly dialled into the E36 chassis, the mounts, the cooling, the fuelling. Making it not just fit,
but work. That's where the real time goes on a conversion like this.

Where we're at

There's plenty still to do. This isn't a car you rush. But the direction is set, the foundation is being built right, and with a competition target in mind for next year there's good motivation to keep pushing. Every
session in the workshop brings it closer.
